CMS Releases Early 2020 Health Insurance Exchange Effectuated Enrollment Snapshot Showing Market Stability

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) today released the Early 2020 Effectuated Enrollment Report for the Federally-facilitated Health Insurance Exchange.  The report confirmed that for the third year in a row, enrollment has remained steady and the number of consumers who paid for coverage in February 2020 increased compared to February 2019.  Effectuated enrollment data is a measure of the number of consumers who selected a plan and have taken the additional steps necessary to keep their coverage in effect.

The Trump Administration has enacted a number of reforms to promote more stable markets and more affordable coverage.  This includes the finalization of the Market Stabilization Rule in 2017 and rulemaking to give states new tools and flexibility in regulating their insurance markets.  As a result of the Administration’s actions, Americans experienced lower premiums and greater choice for the second consecutive year.

While this Administration has made remarkable progress, affordability continues to be a major barrier for people who don’t qualify for financial assistance. During this unprecedented public health emergency CMS is committed to doing all we can to reduce the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) while maintaining the strength of our healthcare system, including the Exchanges, for all Americans. To view the effectuated enrollment report, visit: https://www.cms.gov/CCIIO/Resources/Forms-Reports-and-Other-Resources/Downloads/Early-2020-2019-Effectuated-Enrollment-Report.pdf
